History of the stones
Cut

Until the XIIth century, the stones were polished according to their natural form. Then the Venetian ones start to cut diamonds in geometrical forms. Until the beginning of the century, the jewellers cut the stones to obtain the greatest weight from them: it is at this period that the size of the stones was made to obtain the best brilliance.
